Message from The Principal
|
Dear Families of Saint Francis School:
The success of the auction is evidence that our families are committed to Catholic education. It was an amazing event that supports our children. We are all blessed to have the Law and Kolp families, the strong leadership of Father Denny and ongoing investment of our Parish.
Thank you and as always you are the most important teachers of your children.
In Christ,
Phyllis Daily, Principal
KEEPING YOU INFORMED
STUDENT CHRISTIAN STEWARDSHIP
Catholic Schools Week gave our students many opportunities for service. Every grade made thank you cards and delivered them to local businesses and sent cards to our Seminarians. Eighth grade went to the Friendship Center to serve lunch. Student council representatives sanitized the door handles of the school. 5th grade ran a fundraiser for an orphanage in Haiti earning $570.00. We are proud of how caring and giving the students of St. Francis are.
COMPUTER LAB GOES WIRELESS!
A big thanks to Deacon Paul Fifer of Harbor Software for all the hours he has been putting in to make our computer lab wireless. His experience and time are so greatly appreciated. This should assist with fewer interruptions in the lab due to cords being bumped or moved as children are being instructed.
HONOR ROLL
We are pleased to announce the Honor Roll for the Second Quarter. Gold: Tommy Kidd, Karla Kane, Isabel Ceniza, Shea Whitmore, Phil Brown,Amanda Hoffman, Emma Kendziorski, Sarah Klooster, Kelly Powers, Brian Riordan, Nico Ceniza, Nic George, Mitchell Hoffman, Jacob Kromm, Donald Molosky, and Evan Whitmore. Silver: Taylor Thompson, Tori Visconti, Nick Gadowski, and Elaina Tuck. Bronze: Kathryn Smielewski, and Kylee Chojnacki
ST. FRANCIS SCHOOL DVD
Jennifer Waldvogel, of Timeless Treasures Inc., has copies of the DVD shown at the auction for sale in the school office. They are $20.00 each and proceeds from the sale will be donated back to the school. This is a keepsake that you and your family will treasure forever.
PARKING METERS
We would like to continue our good relationship with the Petoskey Chamber of Commerce. For this reason we are reminding all families of the forgiveness times for the meters on the school side of Michigan St. The times are 10:45-11:15, 12:15-12:45 and 2:45-3:15. Any other time in which meters are expired can cause a ticket to be issued.
Congratulations to our geography bee winners: Jason Cobb (3rd place), Giovanni DeAgostino (1st place) and Doug Daniel (2nd place).
BOB SCHULZE POETRY CONTEST
Saint Francis Middle School Student writers are acknowledged for their literary accomplishments. The Petoskey-Harbor Springs Community Foundation awarded: Runner Up ($25): Donny Molosky for his poem “The Path”, and Honorable Mentions ($10) Isabel Ceniza for her poem “Time Out”, Amanda Hoffman for “An Obsession Like No Other”, Olivia Hoffman for “Alcatraz” and Kathryn Smielewski for “Boys Who”.
Congratulations to the spelling bee winners. The Knights of Columbus sponsored this event and provided the prizes. The winners were 1st place- Karla Kane, 2nd place- Isabel Ceniza, and 3rd place-Seth Izzard.
PRESCHOOL NEWS
Pre-K is very excited about the up and coming “Reading Month”. This month we will be visiting our school library. 3 day preschool will be taking a walk to our favorite book store, McLean and Eakin. 2 day preschool will be visiting the Petoskey Public Library. With the sun shining we all have been thinking about warmer weather. We have already been planning our “Summer Program”. If you need childcare this summer, let us know!
HEALTH UPDATE
We’ve had an increase in sickness lately in the school. Please remind your children to take care in washing their hands. Physicians recommend being fever free for 24 hours without medication before returning to school. If your child is not well enough to be in their classroom, performing regular duties and participating with outdoor lunch recess, they should be home.
PLAYGROUND HELP
Have you worked your mandatory 2 hours on the playground yet? We need 5 volunteers daily and it is crucial to have help to keep the students safe on the playground. Stop in and see Kathy to offer a day to help—the time to be here is 11:15 to 12:15.
